Curriculum
Our curriculum INTENT is that we want our children to know that there is a whole world of opportunity out there, to aim high and reach their potential. We do this through offering a challenging curriculum in which we use a range of programmes and schemes to implement the progression of knowledge and skills across the curriculum. We ensure the children have experiences they would not normally meet, offered through our Cultural Capital. As we prepare our children for the Technological World in which we live, we have a strong focus on keeping our children safe, taught through specifically chosen programs and daily monitoring of the use of the internet.
Through the curriculum the children meet people in the community, experience visits and visitors and work alongside local businesses to strengthen their learning of the world around them.
The whole curriculum design has been completed in partnership with Victoria Infant and Nursery and Victoria Junior School to ensure that our curriculum is based on a progressive framework from two-year-old nursery to year 6. The IMPLEMENTATION of learning is designed to support pupils to do more, know more and remember more and is fully Inclusive and supports our disadvantaged. It effectively provides a sequence of learning for all subjects using the EYFS Areas of Development and National Curriculum as its reference. These sequenced learning activities, support planning that focuses on the main learning in each of the subjects, creating learning opportunities that help pupils strengthen learning, securing recall and retrieval.
Woven within our curriculum we ensure that children are taught how to stay safe and what to do if they don’t feel safe by going to a trusted adult. They are supported to build resilience and prepare for the next stage of their education curriculum.

(Metacognition)
Learning how to Learn.
Building Learning Power (Metacognition) is at the core of our curriculum, helping our pupils to become better learners. BLP allows teachers to give pupils the skills and attitudes to tackle challenging learning, by creating a climate that fosters good learning habits.
At Victoria School pupils from 2-11 are provided with well-planned learning opportunities that include links to develop four overriding learning behaviours known as learning muscles and which support our pupils as they move towards becoming better learners.
Classroom-based learning: At Victoria School we follow the National Curriculum. The core of our curriculum is to ensure that all pupils achieve secure age appropriate skills in English and Mathematics. Teachers follow specific programs to ensure consistency and monitor progress in all core and foundation subjects.
The intent, implementation and impact of all subjects taught are detailed in individual subject specific documents in our curriculum section of our website.
Inclusion
Victoria School offers a wide range of specific intervention programs delivered to all pupils who may require intervention during the school year. These are carried out in one-to-one or small group teaching sessions for pupils who require additional support and are offered to pupils who have EHCP’s or have been identified as having additional learning needs.
Extra-curricular activities: We provide a variety of extra-curricular activities for pupils that enhance their learning experience. The activities range from after-school clubs, to educational trips and visits – a list of the extra-curricular activities available for each year group is sent to parents at the beginning of each term. Extra-curricular activities are designed to enhance pupils’ learning experience, form personal connections between pupils and their peers, and teach skills essential for life after school. Test
